Militant outfit, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen’s top commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag region of Jammu and Kashmir. The 22-year old Burhan Wani was killed along with two other militants on July 8 in a gun-battle after a joint team of police and army launched a search operation on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants. Burhan Wani was seen crying during last moments of his life.

Burhan Wani, who joined the Hizbul Mujahideen at the age of 15 after his brother was allegedly assaulted by security men in 2010, had started weeping when security forces surrounded the place he was hiding in. The security agencies just took four minutes to neutralise all the three terrorists including Wani. According to a post of Defence News India, the militants were able to fire just two rounds of bullets during the encounter. Wani was crying and shouting seeing his end near.

Burhan Wani was a budding cricketer before he turned to militancy. He was the main driving forces behind the induction of many educated youth in the militant outfit. He utilised the social media effectively in order to recruit Kashmiri youth. He was seen in many video mocking at Indian security forces and inviting young boys towards militancy.

The killing of Burhan Wani has triggered tension in several parts of the Kashmir valley. Over 30 people have been killed during protests against the killing of Wani.
