A dating website called SecondWife.com has been launched by a Muslim entrepreneur, aimed at helping men find second wives. Azad Chaiwala, the man behind the website, claims that it promotes fidelity, old-fashioned values, and morality.
The 33-year-old businessman believes in his product so much that he himself plans to select his next two wives from the website.
The site already has 35,000 members and is highly popular among Muslim men in places like Leicester. People visiting the website are greeted with a verse from the Quran which goes:
“Then marry women of your choice, two or three, or four, but if you fear that you will not be able to deal justly, then only one.”
Encouraged by his website’s immediate success, Chaiwala opened a second dating site called Polygamy.com, purely to cater to Western clientele of all faiths. It’s particularly popular among women and has garnered more than 7,000 members since its launch last year.
With the banner “Welcome to the world of polygamy”, the website greets its users with a happy, culturally-diverse family proclaiming, “We want bigger, stronger families.”
In Britain, bigamy is illegal and can land one with a seven-year jail sentence. However, Chaiwala feels that he is not promoting any kind of criminal activity through his websites as his religion allows men to have up to four wives, as long as everyone is happy with the arrangement.
Not everyone’s happy with Chaiwala’s websites though. Khalid Mahmood, the MP for Perry Barr and a Muslim himself, branded Chaiwala’s websites utterly “stupid”.
“It puts a person in huge peril because they are not allowed to claim, as a partner, on his estate. It is not acceptable and puts individuals very much at risk, it puts them at a huge disadvantage. They think they are doing the right thing, but it does put them at risk in terms of the financial situation,” the MP said, reports The Sun.
But for Chaiwala, it’s completely legit.
“People go to a nightclub and have a one-night stand and that’s the end of it. Men go with prostitutes; people look for swingers’ clubs. A man wants to get married to multiple partners in an honourable manner, he wants to share his love and resources – why do you have an issue with that? It is not for everyone – some men are not physically, or financially, capable of taking care of other women.”
